Budapest Design Map now available in hard copy and online
Continuously updated since 2013, the Budapest Design Map helps users choose from the top Budapest sites relevant for design, also before Christmas. Due to the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, support for Hungarian design industry actors in a difficult situation is particularly important this year. In 2020, nearly 200 locations were added to the map, which are accessible also online, as well as on the marked locations.
Commissioned by the Hungarian Intellectual Property Office and managed by the Hungarian Design Council, the goal of Budapest Design Map is to call attention to the diversity of Hungarian design and to increase the popularity of small and medium-sized creative industry businesses. The map was first published in 2013; the number of sites has been growing from year to year, which by this year has come close to 200 exciting targets for design fans.
The guide to the design scene of Budapest mostly presents Hungarian design shops, furniture shops and other stores relevant to design; however, the map also includes a great number of other locations that are closely related to the Hungarian creative industry. The Budapest Design Map presents a diverse offer: Hungarian businesses selling luxury products, vintage boutiques, handicraft workshops, multibrand shops, design studios, furniture shops and fashion salons committed to upcycling and sustainability are equally shown in this unique publication available free of charge.
“In the current situation, the Hungarian Design Council finds it particularly important to support Hungarian small and medium-sized businesses in the creative industry in every possible way. Besides our other projects, it is no secret that our goal with Budapest Design Map is also to inspire Christmas shoppers to buy Hungarian products and through that to support Hungarian designers in this festive season”, says Curator of Budapest Design Week and member of the Hungarian Design Council Judit Osvárt.
The hard copy of the map is distributed free of charge at nearly 300 points in Budapest; it is available online at Budapest Design Week’s home page, where a number of shops are introduced in detail in the form of a series of articles, as well as on the interactive map.
